Super Bowl XLVI Breakdown

Super Bowl XLVI is just around the corner, which means Super Bowl parties, which means everyone will be asking you who you think is going to walk away with the win. To help you answer that question, we’ve provided you with a brief analysis of both teams to help you decide. Here we go!

In the battle of Giants offense versus Patriots defense, many are giving the edge to the Giants. The Giants have Eli Manning, who many believe is underrated, along with a very good core of receivers including Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz. When this is taken into account along with the fact that New England doesn’t have a particularly strong secondary and has had trouble stopping runs, it’s easy to see why the edge has been given to New York in this area.

However, the Giants aren’t the only ones with a good offense. The Patriots have one of the best passing games in the league and their quarterback, Tom Brady, is considered one of the elite in the league. Many hope that this will be countered by the very good Giants defense. Specifically, the Giants’ defensive line is very good and this is what New England fans are counting on to disrupt Brady’s game.

The last area to consider is that of special teams. Giants’ kicker Lawrence Tynes has proven that he able to operate well under pressure, with a game winning field goal in overtime against the San Francisco 49ers for the NFC Championship. In addition, Marc Ross and Victor Cruz are good on the return. However, the Patriots also have a good field goal kicker, Stephen Gostkowski, along with a very good Punter, Zoltan Mesko. Most have given the edge to New England in special teams.

You’ve probably noticed by now that this is going to be a very close game. Four years ago, these two teams met at Super Bowl XLII. The Patriots lost by three points despite having been favored to win by 12. This year the Patriots are favored to win by three points. Will history repeat itself?

You can catch the game tomorrow (February 5th) at 6:25pm ET on NBC.
