Rochester College Performs Jesus Christ Superstar

This year Rochester College is bringing to life the story of Jesus’ last days, from His entrance into Jerusalem to the cross. Written by Andrew Lloyd Webber in collaboration with Tim Rice, it is a heartfelt story told from the Apostles’ point of view as they witness the days leading up to Jesus’ death.

The show was originally performed in 1971 and had such actors as Ted Neeley, Carl Anderson, and Sebastian Bach portraying the roles of Jesus and Judas. It has been performed in many countries and now Greg Wiklanski is bringing it to life on the Rochester College stage.

RC’s rendition features Clay Hargrave playing the role of Jesus, James Busam as Judas, and new-comer to the stage, Danielle Diehl, as Mary Magdalene. The show is set to rock music and includes such songs as “Everything’s Alright,” “I Don’t Know How To Love Him,” and “Superstar”.

The musical was originally produced as an album before being brought to the London stage and has even been made into a movie, which was released in 1973 with Ted Neeley and Carl Anderson reprising their roles from their Broadway performances.

This show is an exciting and heartfelt story with many students and faculty looking forward to opening night. Dr. Shelley has said that he is very excited to see the show and is honored to be a part of the talk-back sessions which will be held both Thursday, November 3 and Friday, November 11.

The show will be running Thursday, November 3 through Saturday, November 5 with the starting show time at 7:30pm. It will continue running the following weekend, November 11 through November 13, with starting times at 7:30pm for Friday and Saturday, and 2pm for the Sunday matinee.

Tickets for the show are available through the Business office. Thursday’s performance will be $5 for students, alum, faculty and staff. Prices for all other days are $10 for students, alum, faculty and staff and $12 for adults. Group rates are available.
