How to Pray
By: Rebecca Colegio
If someone looked up “prayer” in the dictionary, they would find something like “Prayer: To invoke, call on, implore, appeal to, entreat, beg, petition, beseech, supplicate, give thanksgiving”. This makes prayer seem complicated, but it’s actually very easy.
Prayer is how we talk to God. It’s as simple as that. Although we can’t see God, he’s there and he cares.
“The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles” -Psalm 34:17 (NIV). Now, although this doesn’t mean literally crying, it means we can tell God about our troubles and he will listen. Everyone has that best friend they can tell anything to, and God’s just that.
God is the one I talk to when I’m having a terrible day because He genuinely cares about me. Psalm 55:22 says “Cast your burden on the LORD, and he will sustain you…”
Prayer comforts me and keeps me going because I know He’s listening. I know life gets hectic as a college student, but if everyone could take a few moments out of his or her busy schedule to pray I believe it would ease a lot of stress.
All you have to do to pray is talk to God, whether that is out-loud or in your heart is up to you. Try taking a few moments every day to tell God what’s on your heart and praise Him. “Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise”-James 5:13.
