Movie Review: The Help

The Help was both inspiring and charismatic. Based on the #1 New York Times Best Selling book by Kathryn Stockett, The Help takes us back to 1962 Jackson, Mississippi. We follow Skeeter Phelan as she enlist the help of Aibileen Clark and Minny Jackson to write a novel from the point of view of African-American maids working in white households. They cook, they clean, they even raise the children.

Though the film was centered around the struggle between African-Americans and the white upperclass in the 1960s, it was convincingly more about overcomming hate. The powerful message Skeeter, Aibileen, and Minny taught inspires us to be courageous and loving through times of fear and hatred.

The Help features an outstanding performance from Viola Davis as Aibileen Clark. Emma Stone, Octavia Spencer, Bryce Dallas Howard, Allison Janney and Jessica Chastain deliver a compeling performance that make this a must see film.
