RCShield.com is an independent student publication of Rochester College. Designed to complement The Shield, RC’s student magazine that is published four times a year, RCShield.com will be updated several times a week. The editorial staff of The Shield consists of students in the mass communication program and students from other disciplines across campus. The staff is overseen by faculty in RC’s Department of Mass Communication.

JOINING THE SHIELD STAFF:
Working on The Shield offers you the opportunity to use your creative talents in producing publications and web sites while at the same time helping you gain valuable media experience. Students who have an interest in writing, design, photography or video production are encouraged to volunteer for The Shield—even if you have no experience. Joining the staff allows you to participate in the complete production of a magazine and a web site. These pieces are written, edited and designed by students for the campus community. If you are interested in working on The Shield, contact Lora Hutson at lhutson@rc.edu or enroll in MED 1101 Print Journalism, or MED 1201 Digital Journalism, which are hands-on workshop classes devoted to publishing The Shield and RCShield.com
HISTORY:
The Shield was started in 1999 as an independent student newspaper to serve as a voice for student opinion and expression at Rochester College. In 2008, the staffs of the student newspaper and yearbook were combined to allow for production of a four-color, glossy magazine that is produced four times a year. RCShield.com was launched on Oct. 22, 2009.
